Franklin christens new fire truck

For those in attendance at the Franklin Borough Fire Department wet down ceremony on Saturday, June 8, it did not take long to figure out what a wet down meant! Onlookers soon found out and were soaked!

“This is like a christening but for our new fire truck," Franklin Fire Chief Fred Babcock, Jr., said. "Other towns will come by today and we will battle each other with the water hoses. We have the big sprinkler for children to run through.”

Sparrow Bush from New York State, McAfee, Sussex, Ogdensburg, Hamburg and Hardyston Fire Departments all came out at various times on a beautiful Saturday to show support for the Franklin Borough Fire Department. At one point, Hamburg and Hardyston were both on site at the same time to do water battle with Franklin. All the firefighters were soaked in good fun and the trucks hosed down as well.

The comradery was evident between all the fire fighters throughout the day, as shown by many high fives and hugs. Recently, many of these same fire fighters have stood side by side to battle various fires in the area.

Hundreds of people were in attendance for this event. Music, food, fun, and of course plenty of water throughout the day!
