Jefferson Fest to offer kids activities

Jefferson Fest III will be offer some pre-concert free activities for children on Saturday, July 13.

The day starts out at 1 p.m. with Trout Unlimited hosting their annual Children’s Fishing Derby at the Weldon Road Fishing Education Pond across from the Jefferson Township High School.

Open to all boys and girls up to 15 years of age, pre-registration is not necessary nor is there any fee to participate. Children must, however, bring their own bait and fishing equipment; and the catch-and- release program will be in force. NJTU members will be on hand helping children bait their lines, measuring and weighing their catch, and awarding prizes. Prizes will be awarded.

Then free children’s activities continue at the Jefferson Township High School fields, 1010 Weldon Road from 5-7 p.m.

During the 5-7 p.m. time frame, nine food trucks will be open to start serving up hot dogs, burgers, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, rice balls, wood fired personal pizzas, BBQ favorites, plantains bowls, jalapeno grenades, tacos, arepas, empanadas, cheesecake on a stick, ice cream, Italian ices, funnel cake, cotton candy, root beer floats and other cold beverages.

All the food trucks will remain open when the fabulous Jersey Sound Band take the stage at 7:15 p.m. for a two-hour concert. A premier band performing regularly at Pavinci’s Italian Grill in Hopatcong, the band is known for its versatility. Its talented members give people a combination of music genres creating delectable sounds the ear can only imagine. They offer an eclectic blend of classic oldies, Motown, R&B and Pop with the very best vocalists and a killer rhythm section holding it all together. Listen to them at

The winning ticket from what promises to be a huge 50/50 raffle will be drawn after the concert.

And then around 9:30 p.m, a fantastic aerial fireworks display choreographed by Interstate Fireworks will begin.
